  22. These are some instructions on installation and building of the software in
  23. this distribution.
  24.  
  25. To use the software in this release, you must first uncompress and untar
  26. the distribution file.
  27.  
  28. This will create a directory called wais-8-b4, with a number of
  29. subdirectories.
  30.  
  31. To build the software, first modify the file wais-8-b4/Makefile according
  32. to the comments to conform to your particular Hardware/Software
  33. architecture.  You will have to set the variable "TOP", as this is not done
  34. automatically. Be sure to comment out the lines that ay "comment-me".  Then
  35. simply type "make".
  36.  
  37. Most of the software will be made automatically, but the X windows user
  38. interface may not be made due to your particular system's installation of
  39. the X windows base software.  New with this release is an Imakefile, which
  40. can be used to create a Makefile that includes the locations of the X
  41. software for a particular site.  If you can build an X application, you
  42. should be able to build xwais.
